Chapter 10: Dyna

The next guests to come in was my mom and my brother. They were scoping the place out from the door. Even my mom nodded, which meant she approved of his place.

“Hey mom,” I greeted her.

“Hey, darling.” She smiled, “Thanks for the invite. He wasn’t too mad was he?”

“Nope, actually he wanted you guys to come since you had graciously invited him over when he was missing a home-cooked meal.”

“Ahh, I see.” She nodded her head.

“Dean,” my brother pulled me into him for a hug.

“Hey sis, thanks for the invite.” He let me go. “I only saw this on Google Maps, but it looks much nicer in person.

At first I was confused, but then I remembered the first night I came to Kane’s house, I text my brother the address. Just as a precaution.

“Be sure to tell Kane. He’s put a lot of work into this.”

“He did this himself?”

“Yeah, most of it, besides the kitchen.”

“Wow,” my mom chimed in.

“Come on, let’s go out back to meet everyone.

They followed me and I introduced them all to everybody. Melanie was still sitting next to Tyler and she looked a little more than tipsy. She hugged my mom and smiled at my brother. That look didn’t last long because Tyler was in between them, shaking my brother’s hand and introducing himself and re-introducing Melanie as his woman. She was still behind him shaking her head in the negative.

Five minutes later, Kane got up and whistled to get everyone’s attention.

“Hey everybody, thanks for coming out on such short notice. Tyler was trying to get me to do something, so here we are. It’s always good to be around friends and family. I thought this could also be a special moment as well since we have everyone here. Dyna and I are getting married.” Everybody cheered while I could have crawled under the picnic table. “We haven’t set a date yet or anything like that, but I just wanted to let you guys know first. Okay, the food is ready, so go eat.”

Kane sat back down while my mom grabbed for my hand.

“Well, goddamn. That man sure ain’t playing around with yo ass, is he?”

“Damn, sis. Is it too soon? What’s up? You not pregnant are you?”

“Dean,” I snapped. “No, I’m not pregnant. We are just not going to wait until we are in our 40’s to get married. Kane has me by eight years, so he knows what he wants and he doesn’t dilly dally about that. I’ve finished school, I have a great job and I want him. So, I won’t dilly dally either.”

“Gotcha sis. Well, congratulations!” He smiled genuinely.

“Thanks.”

“The jury is still out on him, but he’s getting hotter and hotter. That rock almost pushed him there.” My mom shook her head.

I laughed.

By the end of the night, Uncle John and my mom were arguing about the economy. Tyler had Melanie on his lap, saying only God knows what in her ear. She was toasted, but she was loving whatever he was saying.
